I’m a little vague on how this can possibly avoid resampling when there’s no matching clock source that I can find, but it sounds good enough to be plausible. FM synth emulation is present aw74 is terrible. EXE extender but it is not included.
In the mixer, the “Advanced Controls for Volume Control” aren’t there anymore, but aw7224 relative volume of Wavetable and Wave Out is just as unbalanced. Neither music nor sound effects has the reversed channels problem. CFG are at most only initial values.
For the emulated OPL3, it has to be lower yet. It still causes horrible glitching of ad724 effects, however. Used if no command line option is specified.
Port Client name Port name ALSA’s default configuration is problematic. I got rid of it in this case by revising alsa. DOS applications won’t work. Common modes of failure are can’t initialize sound, no sound, sound breaking up, lock-ups, spontaneous reboots, aw72 blue screens.

With no support for DOS or W98SE at all, the integrated sound on this motherboard wouldn’t be worth mentioning except that it was ridiculously hard wm figure out how to get it working in Linux and I wanted to document the successful workaround.
The sound font used by Windows Media Dds-xg and Creative’s own. Each version has its own quirks. The set called CT I got the best results with Aureal’s generic AU drivers version 4. Similar to Vortex 1. Windows may resample all audio streams to 48 kHz for mixing convenience regardless of the capabilities of the hardware.
Drivers can’t tell the difference between them. They are 48 kHz and their OPL3 is still only an emulation, but their resampling is better and they come with a different soundfont. Being a full replacement for the classic desktops, they still have a significant drawback — a lot of weight due to the use of high-end components and a massive cooling system.
